Proverbs 1:23
Turn at my reproof. Behold, I will pour out my spirit on you. I will make known my words to you.

The first Proverb is very important as it gives us insight not what the proverbs are and how to use them in our lives. In verses 6-7 it explains that, to the young they are like parables and words for our understanding and counselling. They are neither stories or promises, they are insights of how things are for the benefit of our understanding. Putting God first is the advice for us to help us guide our way through them.
Then comes the advice to wear our parents' advice like a garland. This is the gift our parents government us. This is not a specific instruction however - more of honour what is said for what it is - we still put God first as advised.
Secondly not to follow sinners who seek to destroy innocent blood. How absurd it is for people to lay a net for birds! They lay in wait only for their own blood.
This means that following ways of destruction and seeking bloodshed will destroy ourselves and for us to beware. This advises us to look at ourselves and those we follow and be wary of this who seek bloodshed. As proverbs are only for our understanding let us think what God wants. God would want us to have this understanding as God himself does not desire destruction as shown in Isaiah 11.9 If there is anything not take literally here it is that we should also not use this proverb as an excuse to stop loving our neighbour.
